UpRight began in 1946 when Wallace Johnson from Berkeley, California, wanted to paint his house, but could not find
a scaffolding that could cope with the uneven terrain surrounding the house. He decided to design his own aluminum
scaffold tower with adjustable legs.
He founded UpRight Scaffolds, and by the end of the 1950s, UpRights "Instant" alloy towers had become the market
leader in the USA and the company shipped its first export orders to Europe in 1958. After that, Wallace Johnson
invented the worlds first mobile aerial work platform.
